Laser Dentistry

Soft tissue laser dentistry uses a focussed light beam to precisely cut, remove or reshape soft tissues in the mouth. This includes:

  • Tongue and lip tie releases
  • Gum overgrowths, such as over wisdom teeth
  • Reducing the frequency and severity of cold sores

A Better Way to Treat Soft Tissue

Soft tissue laser dentistry is precise and gentle, with less pain, faster healing, minimal bleeding and a lower risk of infection. With no stitches required and reduced scarring, patients enjoy a quicker and more comfortable recovery and shorter appointments — all under just local anaesthetic, compared to the traditional scalpel and sutures.

These advantages combine to deliver a much better patient experience with less time in the dental chair. There's no need to return for a subsequent visit to remove sutures, and the procedure can be performed in a typical dental practice setting rather than in a hospital with a specialist — resulting in significantly lower cost.

  • Less pain during and after the procedure
  • Quicker recovery time
  • Minimal bleeding without needing stitches
  • Significantly reduced risk of secondary infection
  • Minimal post-operative scarring

Case Study 1 — Gum Over Wisdom Tooth

A 25-year-old woman accidentally bit into the thin collar of gum sitting over her lower right wisdom tooth and wanted to consider extraction. Despite being a wisdom tooth, it was a functional tooth with an opposing wisdom tooth to bite against. It was an issue with the overlying gum, not the wisdom tooth itself. After removing the collar of gum with the laser, it recovered well without recurrence — and she has managed to keep the wisdom tooth to present day without any further issues.

Case Study 2 — Fibroma Removal

A 55-year-old man accidentally bit his cheek 10 years prior during a motorcycle accident, causing a callous-like overgrowth of the inside of his cheek called a fibroma. He would occasionally bite into it, causing severe pain for several days each time. He was reluctant to address it, concerned it would require removal in a hospital setting with a specialist and the associated costs and recovery. When laser removal was explained, he had the fibroma removed under local anaesthetic in just 20 minutes — with no suturing required. He fully healed within a few weeks, with no recurrence, no scarring and no downtime.
